Full Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week Release
FRISCO, Texas -- Senior pitcher Ashley Kriesel has been selected as the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, per a release from the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The Houston native was lights out in action at the Mardi Gras Classic over the weekend, helping SFA to a 4-1 record there, and is bringing home the weekly award for the first time this season.
Kriesel put forth a total of 16 innings of work across three starts, posting a 3-0 record in those contests. She hurled four innings against Memphis in her first start of the weekend to earn the victory, then turned in standout performances against Jacksonville (2/22) and South Alabama (2/23), where she posted back-to-back double-digit strikeouts in seven innings and five innings, respectively. Her five innings against the host Jaguars on Sunday also saw her hold the home team hitless in five frames, and Kriesel combined with freshman Katie Hartwell to complete the combined no-hitter in the 9-0 SFA victory.
Through the first three weeks of the season, Kriesel ranks ninth among conference pitchers in fewest hits allowed (18), despite ranking second in total innings pitched (41.1), and her 67 strikeouts are far and away the league lead, ranking 19 K's above teammate Kassidy Wilbur in second. She also leads the league in opponent batting average (.128) and total wins (6), and is tied for the league lead with four complete games. She also has a no-hitter and a combined no-hitter to her credit already this season, and broke the school record for strikeouts in a single game (19) earlier this season.
