AUSTIN, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin track and field team will open up competition at the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin on Wednesday, as three pole vaulters and the women's 4x400 relay compete for national acclaim. The meet spans four days from June 5-8, and will take place at Mike A. Myers Stadium, which also serves as the home of the annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The NCAA Championship meet will span four action packed days, with SFA's athletes competing on Wednesday and Thursday. Should the Ladyjack relay qualify, the finals of the 4x400m relay will take place on Saturday evening. A full schedule of events is listed above, as well as a link to the live results and a streaming schedule of all the events, which will take place on the ESPN family of networks.
SFA's reputation as "Pole Vault U" is well reinforced by the placement of three individuals among the field in the men's and women's pole vault. Freshman Branson Ellis will represent SFA on Wednesday afternoon in the men's vault, while classmate Nastassja Campbell and senior Madison Pecot will compete for the 'Jacks on the women's side. Campbell placed third in the qualifying competition at the NCAA Preliminary Round two weeks ago, while Pecot finished fifth overall. Ellis finished eighth on the men's side to punch his own ticket to Austin, and along with Campbell will be making his second NCAA Championship appearance (both were 2019 NCAA Indoor All-Americans).
Due to concerns about weather, the championship committee has already voted to move forward the schedule of events on Wednesday by two hours for the field events (2 ½ hours ahead for the running events). Thus, Ellis' vault competition will get underway at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and his personal best of 5.61m (18-4.75) has him seeded ninth overall. Campbell and Pecot's competition is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and they are seeded seventh (4.36m) and 10th(4.33m) in the competition, respectively.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Imani Nave, Aaliyah Teel, Daijia Carr and Cayla Burch is seeded ninth in the first of three heats set to take place at 10:18 p.m. on Thursday night. The top two relay teams from each heat plus the next two best times will advance to Saturday night's finals at 7:51 p.m.
