NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SFA track and field team gets a chance to compete on its home track this weekend with the running of the seventh annual Carl Kight Invitational. The three day meet will stretch from Thursday into Saturday and features competitors from 17 different institutions.
The meet will begin on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. with the start of the decathlon/heptathlon, with the 400m run of the decathlon closing out the first day's competition at 7:00 p.m. The multis resume competition at 9:00 a.m on Friday morning, with the bulk of the meet starting at 4:00 p.m. with the first of the field events. A distance carnival will close out Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending with the 5000m run for both the men and women. Saturday's events begin at 9:00 a.m and run throughout the day, culminating in the recognition of SFA's 16-member senior class on the field of Homer Bryce Stadium at approximately 3:30.
SFA enters the competition off a successful performance at the 92ndannual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last weekend in Austin. The 'Jacks registered a handful of top-8 finishes, including three relays, and saw the 4x800m relay demolish the school record in the event by 13 seconds. Additional standout performances by pole vaulters Madison Pecot and Branson Ellis, as well as Drake Murphy (800m) were put forth by the 'Jacks as well.
Entering the weekend's competition, SFA will get a chance to showcase many of its athletes on the Fletcher Garner Track inside Homer Bryce Stadium and the adjacent throwing fields. A total of 15 collegiate programs consisting of Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA programs will compete, along with the Iron Woods Throws Club. Fellow Southland programs Houston Baptist, Sam Houston State and Northwestern State will each have athletes present. Also competing over the weekend are athletes from Concordia (Tx), Dallas Baptist, East Texas Baptist, Jarvis Christian, LeTourneau, Rice, Southwestern (Tx), Texas College, Texas Lutheran, UL-Monroe, UT-Tyler and UT-Arlington.
