SFA drops second-straight match
BEAUMONT, Texas - The SFA tennis team suffered a 7-0 shutout loss at Southland Conference foe Lamar Friday afternoon.
With the setback, SFA's second-straight and its third consecutive in league action, the Ladyjacks slide to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in Southland matches.
DOUBLES
• Neither match was decided by more than two games, but it was the Cardinals who came through and excelled when things got tight to claim the all-import doubles point.
• Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic dropped a narrow 6-4 decision to Jasmin Buchta and Amelie Vossgaetter.
• Darinka Tiboldi and Armelle Cerdan fell by the same score to the duo of Bianca Vitale and Natalia Molina on the number-two line.
• Kyndall Misak and Nida Kamal were trailing Sanja Jolic and Laura Sola Grau 5-3 when doubles play concluded.
SINGLES
• Three of the six singles matches were hotly contested, none more so than the top-line matchup between Guilarte and Buchta. Lamar's top-flight singles player emerged with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) triumph.
• Tiboldi battled Vitale tough on the number-two line, but ultimately wound up on the wrong end of a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 result.
• Like her first and second-flight teammates, Cerdan pushed things to the brink in the first set. Unfortunately, Lamar continued its winning ways when Jolic collected a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
• Misak won six total games against Sola Grau on the number-six line in a 6-3, 6-3 loss.
• On line five, Ljubic played Vossgaetter tough in the first set but came up short in a 6-3, 6-0 loss.
• Kamal took only one game against Molina in the fifth flight match, falling 6-1, 6-0.
COMING UP NEXT
• SFA will hope to put the brakes on its two-match skid on Sunday when it heads to Corpus Christi, Texas, for a noon match with Southland foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
