Ladyjack right-hander goes 2-0 against McNeese over weekend, including tossing a one-hit complete game shutout
FRISCO, Texas – For the second time in her inaugural collegiate season SFA softball's Kassidy Wilbur has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The freshman right-hander tossed two complete game wins, including a one-hit shutout, to help the Ladyjacks pick up their second-straight league series win over three-time defending Southland tournament champion McNeese over the weekend.
In SFA's series opener with the Cowgirls Friday afternoon at the SFA Softball Field, Wilbur nearly collected a no-hitter as she gave up just one hit for her third complete game shutout of the season and first versus an opponent not ranked in the top 25. Fanning nine McNeese batters out of 25 faced, Wilbur walked just three as SFA took game one 7-0.
Saturday, Wilbur earned her eighth complete game win of the season by leading the Ladyjacks to a series-clinching 4-2 victory in a decisive game three with eight strikeouts. Allowing just two runs and two walks in 29 batters faced, Wilbur notched her ninth win of her freshman campaign.
The Bridge City, Texas (Bridge City HS), native finished the weekend series with a 1.00 earned run average and 17 strikeouts in 14 total innings of work, holding McNeese to a .170 batting average and only two extra-base hits. Wilbur currently ranks eighth nationally with 122 strikeouts on the year, while leading the conference and ranking 34th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (8.8).
The righty was also named Southland Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 12 after going 4-0 over the opening weekend of the season with a two-hit complete game shutout of then 24th-ranked Mississippi State. She became SFA's first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week on the same day after not allowing an earned run in three game starts and 22 innings, setting the program record for most strikeouts by a Ladyjack making her debut with 15 in the season-opening win over Valparaiso (6-2).

The Ladyjacks return to game action Wednesday with a midweek non-conference road tilt at Southeastern Conference stalwart Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. First pitch from Davis Diamond is slated for 5 p.m. with the game streamed live everywhere via SEC Network+.
