Kamal and Tiboldi turn in singles wins

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA tennis team suffered a 4-2 non-conference loss to visiting UTEP Sunday afternoon at the Schlief Tennis Complex.

DOUBLES
• A back-and-forth doubles point wound up going to the Miners who picked up a win on line three to lock things down.
• Kyndall Misak and Nida Kamal gave the Ladyjacks a chance with their 6-3 triumph against the UTEP tandem of Kathleen Percegona and Yvette Van Oiken on the second line. Unfortunately, UTEP used a 6-4 win by Rine Nozaki and Erandi Martinez over Armelle Cerdan and Darinka Tiboldi in the third flight to grab a 1-0 lead.
• UTEP grabbed an early lead in the fight for the doubles point when Kirsten Prelle and Vanessa Valdez posted a 6-4 victory over Kaja Ljubic and Gabi Guilarte in the top flight.

SINGLES
• The Miners' lead continued to grow after Ljubic dropped a 6-2, 6-1 bout to Percegona on line three. UTEP went ahead 3-0 after Misak fell 6-3, 7-6 to Milena Baigorria in flight number six, but SFA battled back from there.
• Down 1-0 in her singles match, Tiboldi put SFA on the board with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 come-from-behind victory over Martinez in flight two.
• Kamal notched a comeback victory of her own to pull the Ladyjacks within one point. Kamal upended Van Oijen 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the number-five singles match. • Regrettably, the Miners got out with a win after Guilarte dropped a tough 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 result to Prelle on the number-one line.
• Cerdan's fourth-flight match against Nozaki was halted after the Miners clinched the win. At the time of the stoppage, Cerdan and Nozaki were deadlocked at 2-2 in a deciding third set.

COMING UP NEXT
• The Ladyjacks next six matches will take place either on the road or at neutral sites. That run starts on Saturday when SFA tangles with two SWAC squads. At 10:00 a.m., the Ladyjacks are at Grambling State and at 3:00 p.m. that day they conclude a two-match day by taking on Prairie View A&M.
