SFA's top-flight doubles team improves to 3-0
HOUSTON - The SFA tennis team's number-one doubles tandem of Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic netted a 6-4 victory over Houston's Ndindi Ndunda and Mimi Kendall-Woseley, but that was all the winning the Ladyjacks would do Saturday afternoon in a 7-0 non-conference setback to the Cougars at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Houston grabbed a 1-0 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches before continuing their successes in singles action.
Guilarte bounced back from a 6-2 setback to Ndunda in top-flight singles and forced a third set with a 6-2 win of her own in the second. Ndunda, unfortunately, won the third frame 10-5 to squash Guilarte's comeback bid.
On the number four singles line, Armelle Cerdan took six games from Jovana Vukovic in a 6-2, 6-4 setback. Nida Kamal secured five total games in her 6-3, 6-2 loss to Phonexay Chitdara on the number five line.
Ljubic and Darinka Tiboldi each won three games in their respective singles match.
SFA's five-match road trip to begin the 2019 season continues next weekend when the Ladyjacks head south to San Antonio, Texas, to begin a two-match weekend. First, SFA tangles with UTSA at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The Ladyjacks then close out their weekend by heading up to San Marcos, Texas, for an 11:00 a.m. matchup against Texas State Sunday morning.
