THE FIRST SERVE
• Following a break of one week, the SFA tennis team returns to action by heading south for a pair of non-conference matches. First up is a date at UTSA on Saturday morning and following that tilt with the Roadrunners SFA travels to San Marcos for a Sunday non-conference match at Texas State
• The Ladyjacks' top-flight doubles team of Kaja Ljubic and Gabi Guilarte have gotten off to a great start in 2019. That duo is 3-0 on the number-one line, giving them more victories than all but one other Southland Conference top-flight doubles team.
• In singles action, Armelle Cerdan, Darinka Tiboldi and Ljubic have all been victorious in two of their first three matches of the season. Redshirt freshman Kyndall Misak (2-0) is the only Ladyjack who hasn't dropped a singles bout this season.
• SFA is 3-2 (.600) in its last five matches against UTSA, but the Roadrunners have been the victors in each of the last two meetings.
• Against the Bobcats, SFA is 4-1 (.800) in its last five matchups. The teams haven't met since the 2017 season and that year SFA claimed a 4-3 comeback victory over Texas State.
SCOUTING UTSA | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• The Roadrunners haven't played since Sunday, Feb. 3, and come into Saturday's match winners of their last two matches. SFA is the fifth Southland team UTSA will play this season and so far it's 2-2 against Southland opponents with wins over Abilene Christian (5-2) and Incarnate Word (4-0).
• Kylee Kato is the Roadrunners' leader in singles wins so far this season, having posted a 4-2 showing on the number-four singles line. In doubles play, she has teamed with Jasmin Starr to produce a 5-2 record in top-flight doubles matches.
SCOUTING TEXAS STATE | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• In the midst of a stretch of seven-straight home matches, the Bobcats hope to put an end to a three-match losing skid Saturday against McNeese before matching up against SFA on Sunday.
• Texas State is 0-2 at home and has gone 1-1 against Southland Conference competition. In their second match of the year, the Bobcats posted a 6-1 victory over Nicholls.
• Julia Navajo-Mendez has gotten off to a great start in singles play, posting a 4-0 record on the number-four line. Joy Chia Ming Ming (flight five) and Rishona Israel-Lewis (flight two) are each 3-1 in singles action.
• Israel-Lewis and Josefina Cassara have been responsible for posting half of Texas State's doubles victories this season. That duo is 3-0 in second-flight doubles.
COMING UP NEXT
