
Track and Field Accords Itself Well in Opening Day at Weekend Meets

SFA records multiple event winners and personal bests on Friday

HOUSTON, Texas – The SFA Track and Field team opened competition at a pair of weekend meets with strong performances. The majority of the team competed at the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston, with the remainder taking part in the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuqueurque.
MEET EVENT WINNERS
• Kelsey Ramirez won the mile run after leading from start to finish and posting a time of 4:54.
• Jordan Washington won the 60m hurdles.
• Trenton Bridges won the men's weight throw with a PR distance of 18.16m (59-7.00).
• Drake Murphy took first in the men's 400m at the Don Kirby Invite.
SFA TOP PERFORMANCES
• LaSean Davis finished second in the 800m run with a mark of 2:14.90. Teammate Allison Compass finished fifth with a time of 2:17.40.
• Mahlon Dawson and Kadejah Wilson finished ninth in the women's high jump.
• Aolani Harris finished ninth in the long jump.
• Raylie Huff notched a fourth-place finish in the women's triple jump, while Kariyah Lanehart finished eighth.
• Mallory Dotson finished seventh in the women's shot put and the women's weight throw. Maggie Okul finished eighth in the weight throw.
• A time of 49.56 in the 400m dash earned Jeremiah Curry a fourth-place finish in his first ever 400m race.
• Justin Garcia finished third in the men's 800m with a time of 1:56.20.
• Titus Kiplagat and Pedro Flores took fourth and fifth in the mile run with marks of 4:22.42 and 4:22.52, respectively.
• Awet Beraki took third in the 3000m run with a PR of 8:30.
• Isaiah Pittman finished second overall in the men's long jump, leaping to a mark of 6.96m (22-10.00).
• Kevin Steward finished second in the men's shot put.
• Jillian Turner qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles.
PERSONAL BESTS
• Ashton Callahan finished eighth in the men's 60m dash with a mark of 7.00, but set his PR in the semifinals with a time of 6.86.Callahan also finished fifth in the men's 200m dash with a PR time of 21.72.
• Jillian Turner notched a PR in the women's 60m hurdles.

The team will wrap up competition at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday. Following that, SFA Track and Field will compete at the Aggie Twilight meet next weekend in College Station, Texas. The meet is the final tune-up before the Southland Conference Indoor Championship meet on Feb. 24-25.
