LAKE CHARLES, LA -- Gavin Kensmil secured a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to help the SFA men's basketball team knock off the McNeese State Cowboys 81-73 on the road Saturday.
SFA's overall record moved to 10-2 and conference record improved to 2-0 following the win.
The 'Jacks had three players score in double figures, led by Kensmil, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Cameron Johnson tacked on 18 points and seven rebounds from the bench and Nathan Bain helped out with 12 points and six rebounds.
SFA shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 17 assists on 30 made field goals. Individually, David Kachelries dished out the most for the 'Jacks with five assists and Charlie Daniels also added three assists of his own.
The SFA defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 17 McNeese State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Daniels led the way individually for the 'Jacks with three steals.

After jumping out to a 40-39 advantage, SFA went on a 7-0 run with 1:18 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Kensmil, to increase its lead to 47-39, a score that would hold until halftime. SFA did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 47 points close to the basket.
SFA kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 68-52 with 8:15 to go in the contest. The Cowboys narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the 'Jacks still cruised the rest of the way for the 81-73 win. SFA took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 34 points in the lane.
