COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin track and field team begins its 2019 season in earnest this weekend at the Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas. The two-day meet is hosted by Texas A&M University and begins Friday, January 11. SFA will compete solely in Saturdays meet aside from the distance medley relay and 5000m race on Friday.

SFA fields yet another talented roster in Phil Olson's 20th season as head coach of the program, and will look to build on four Top-3 finishes in the Southland Conference indoor and outdoor championships last season. A total of 58 athletes return from last year's squad with competition experience, which includes 14 All-Conference performers, two NCAA regional qualifiers and a USATF Junior All-American. Joining them are 27 talented newcomers that are ready to make immediate contributions to the program.
The 'Jacks have opened their season at Texas A&M in each of the past three seasons, and this weekend's Ted Nelson Invitational features a stacked field of nationally ranked programs. Along with the host Aggies (M-No.3/W-No.19), both Texas (M-No.4/W-No.12) and Baylor (M-No.4/W-No.15) boast national rankings on both its teams. The remainder of Saturday's field consists of Abilene Christian, UT-Arlington, Texas State and UTSA.
