Pavan Named SLC Male Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

Gold medal Decathlon winner named league's top field athlete
FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced the league's superlative award winners following the conclusion of the outdoor track & field championships and among the student-athletes honored is Stephen F. Austin's Samuel Pavan who was named the league's Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Year.
Pavan stood atop the podium at last week's SLC Outdoor Championships in Nacogdoches after besting the decathlon field with a new personal-best total of 7,512 points which is the third most ever by a Lumberjack multi-athlete, the best total result in the Southland this spring and the 22nd highest result in the West Region. He also scored two more points for the Jacks, who went back-to-back, by placing seventh in the open pole vault (4.77m), while also finishing among the top 15 discus throwers in the league.
This spring, Pavan set new personal-best results in nine of the ten decathlon disciplines. While helping the Lumberjack men defend the forest, he posted a new career-best mark in the javelin at 44.53m and clocked new times in the 110H (14.87) and 400m (51.25). At the 44 Farms Invite, where he placed third in early April, Pavan posted new personal-best times in the 1500m (4:42.78) and 100m (10.98) and set new career-high marks in the pole vault (4.80m), high jump (1.93m), shot put (14.93m) and long jump (7.29m).
