
SFA Track and Field Records 21 Top Eight Finishes at Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In its first action of the 2019 season, the SFA track and field team accorded itself well among a tough field of competition, with the team's youth showing out well. The women's team finished in fifth with 71.5 points, while the men finished in seventh with 34 points.
Prior to Saturday's competition, the women's distance medley relay team of LaSean Davis, Cayla Burch, Bailey Kinney and Kelsey Ramirez ran to a school record of 11:56.30 and a first-place finish in the event.
In the women's mile race, sophomore Kelsey Ramirez finished second overall with a school record time of 4:52.48, while Bailey Kinney and Crystal Ariceaga finished in 5:27.55 and 5:28.00, respectively. Awet Beraki finished ninth in the men's mile, coming in at 4:20.67, while Pedro Flores finished 13thwith a time of 4:28.91.
Claire Crone finished fourth in the 3000m race with a time of 10:00.73, followed closely by Brittany Innis in fifth with a time of 10:05.21. Taryn Surratt and Carolyn Evans finished 10thand 11th, respectively, with times of 10:39.03 and 10:44.48. Ttius Kiplagat came in at seventh in the men's race with a mark of 8:44.37, while Nic Butts ran to a time of 9:13.48.
Imani Nave raced to a seventh place finish in the women's 400m dash, finishing with a time of 58.09. Teammates Daija Carr and Sammi Brashears finished in 59.58 and 1:00.04, respectively. On the men's side, Payton Davis came in at 50.15 while Jonathan Ventura finished in 50.31.
Finishing in third in the women's 800m was LaSean Davis, who came in with a time of 2:12.65. Teammate Madison Compass finished fifth with a mark of 2:16.07, while sister Allison Compass had a mark of 2:17.45 and a seventh-place finish. Freshman Justin Garcia notched an eight-place finish on the men's side with a time of 1:57.48.
In the 200m dash, Camille Singleton was the top finisher for SFA on the women's side, coming in at 25.11 to finish in 14th. Aaliyah Teel was right behind her in 16that 25.25, followed by freshman Asia Giles in 21st(25.60) in her first collegiate action. The men's 200m race saw Ashton Callahan finish in eighth at 21.79, right ahead of teammate Jeremiah Curry in ninth at 21.80. A third freshman, Jacob Thomas, finished in 21.87 to notch a 12thplace finish.
In the high jump, Mahlon Dawson jumped to a mark of 1.64m (5'-04.5) to finish ninth in the event. Kadejah Wilson reached a height of 1.59m (5-02.5) on her way to an 11thplace finish, while Abi Toops jumped to a height of 1.54m (5-0.5). Wilson led SFA in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.15m (16-10.75), followed by Aolani Harris in 15th(5.08m/16-8), Tysley Valencia (4.84m/15-10.5) and Caitlin Lennon (4.69m/15-4.75). The men's long jump saw Tanner Parks finished eighth with a distance of 6.67m (21-10.75), Noah Berney finish 10thwith a 6.17m (20-3.00) and Tory Mitchell leapt to 11thwith a mark of 5.83m (19-1.5). Berney also finished fourth in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.98m (6-6).
In the pole vault, SFA had two men finish in the top five, as Antonio Ruiz placed third with a mark of 5.33m (17-5.75) and Branson Ellis finished fifth with a mark of 5.18m (17-00). Chad Horstmann gave SFA three Top-10 finishers with a mark of 4.88m (16-00), while Tyler Stafford finished 12that 4.58m (15.25). Natassja Campbell vaulted to a second place finish for SFA in the women's vault, reaching a height of 4.39m (14-4.75), while fellow freshman Gabriana Dornak came in at 3.59m (11-9.25) to finish seventh.
Trenton Bridges finished sixth in the men's weight throw, reaching a distance of 17.29m (56-8.75). Kevin Steward finished fifth in the men's shot put by throwing to a mark of 16.03m (52-7.25). Connor Wilbur (11.32m/37-1.25) and Tanner Parks (10.65m/34-11.25) finished 11thand 13th, respectively. Bellodgia Roberson reached a mark of 15.11m (49-7) in the women' weight throw to finish seventh, while Mallory Dotson finished ninth with a distance of 14.65m (48-0.34). Maggie Okul finishd 12thwith a distance of 14.03m (46-0.5).
In the triple jump, Raylie Huff finished fourth with a distance of 11.51m (37-9.25).
The women's 4x400 relay team of Imani Nave, Cayla Burch, Dominique Jackson and Aaliyah Teel finished fifth with a time of 3:45.30.
