
Three Ladyjacks Secure Third-Place Singles Finishes at Ragin' Cajuns Invitational

Nine of SFA's 10 wins at two-day event come in singles action

LAFAYETTE, La. - Three of the SFA women's tennis team's singles players posted third-place finishes in their respective flights at the Ragin' Cajuns Invitation Saturday afternoon. The two-day tournament wrapped up Saturday at the Cajun Courts.
In the top-flight singles bracket, Gabi Guilarte dropped her opening match of the tournament by recovered in the back draw by besting Louisiana Tech's Sonia Chen by a 6-3, 6-2 tally. SFA's junior posted a fifth-place finish in the number-one singles bracket with her 7-6 (5), 7-5 triumph over Southland Conference adversary Jelena Dordan from Incarnate Word.
Darinka Tiboldi was inserted into SFA's number-two singles slot and came up with a tough 7-6 (0), 4-6, 10-8 triumph over Louisiana's Marina Rodriguez Garcia on day one. Though Tiboldi dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Northwestern State's Ela Iwaniuk, she recovered with a 6-1, 6-1 win over McNeese's Stells Carra in the third-place match.
Kaja Ljubic also emerged as the victor in her first match of the tournament by posting a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Northwestern State's Judit Castillo. After suffering a 7-5, 6-1 to Louisiana's Dana Radovanovic, Ljubic bounced back and laid claim to third place in the number-three singles flight with her 6-3, 6-4 win over Louisiana-Monroe's Teodora Radu.
Number-four flight singles competitor Armelle Cerdan battled Louisiana-Monroe's Angeles Maria Cueto in her opening match of the tournament and emerged with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Louisiana's Hoda Habib. Cerdan, however, posted a third-place finish in the number-four singles bracket by besting Louisiana's Morgan Forshag by a 6-0, 6-2 tally.
Kyndall Misak's lone win in the number-five singles bracket came in the seventh-place match where the Ladyjacks' redshirt freshman turned in a 6-2, 6-3 result against McNeese's Charlotte Ziegler.
In doubles action, SFA turned in a collective record of just 1-7 with the tandem of Guilarte and Misak securing a 6-2 triumph over the Louisiana Tech duo of Andrea Perez-Lopez and Leonie Nutz in the seventh-place match of the number-two doubles flight.
SFA returns to action just shy of three weeks from now when the Ladyjacks head to College Station, Texas, to take part in the ITA Regionals hosted by Texas A&M. The five-day event begins on Thursday, Oct. 18 and wraps up Monday, Oct. 22.
