
SFA Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at Weekend Meets

Bryan Clay Invitational Results
WACO, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin track and field team competed at a trio of meets this weekend, the final scheduled competition before the 2018 Southland Conference outdoor meet. The weekend's foremost highlight was the setting of a new school record in the women's 1500m race by freshman Kelsey Ramirez, who obliterated her previous personal best with a mark of 4:28.45, beating the previous mark of 4:29.10, set by Rana Ryan in 2016. While Ramirez and the other SFA distance runners competed at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Carl Invitational, both in California, the remainder of the team competed at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.
Part of the contingent in Waco, Avery Ellis-Byerly placed seventh among collegiate performers in the women's javelin throw with a PR mark of 35.79m (117-05), and Cord Neal paced SFA with the same finish in the men's javelin at 53.00m (173-11).
Maggie Okul took third in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 53.51m (175-07) to match her career best, while teammate Tierra Wilson placed fifth at 51.35m (168-06). Mallory Dotson placed third in the women's shot put, reaching a distance of 12.91m (42-04.25), while Lacey Lee came in sixth with a mark of 12.28m (40-03.50). Ben Bibby placed third in the shot put with a distance of 15.38m (50-0.50). A full lineup of Ladyjacks placed in the women's discus, led by Dotson in first (144-09), Wilson in second (143-04), Bellodgia Roberson in third (138-02), Lee in sixth (129-02) and Beth Hood in eighth (120-02). Kevin Steward notched new personal bests in the shot put (16.72m) and the discus throw (53.06m), with a fourth and second place finish, respectively.
In the men's long jump, Denzel Green leapt to a mark of 7.24m (23-09.00). Mahlon Dawson cleared a height of 1.62m (5-03.75) in the high jump to place sixth, while Kadejah Wilson came in eighth with a clearance at the same height.
Dakota Mayr placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.03m (13-02.50), while Kaylee Bizzell took eighth with a height of 3.88m (12-08.75).
In the men's 100m hurdles, Kerry Gleason took fifth with a time of 14.28. Kadrienne Sanders led a trio of top-eight finishers for SFA in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.87, followed by Sammi Brashears in seventh (1:03.88) and Caitlin Lennon in eighth (1:03.91).
Madison Compass notched a fifth-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.11, while Aaliyah Teel took fourth in the 100m at 12.11 and Meghan Bell, eighth with a time of 12.22. Tiffany Williams took sixth in the 400m with a time of 57.81, followed by Deziree Porter in seventh with a time of 58.08, a PR mark for the latter. In the men's 400m, Drake Murphy placed fourth with a time of 48.17, while Charles Fentress finished eighth among collegiate performers with a time of 48.89. Teel would also place sixth in the women's 200m dash with a PR of 24.48.
In the 1500m, Claire Crone took eighth with a mark of 4:51.59, while Jeremy Rich represented SFA on the men's side with a time of 4:05.64. The men's 5000m featured a seventh-place finish by Evan Barron with a time of 15:32.54, followed by John Shirk in eighth with a time of 15:34.99. Elizabeth Guerra took fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:48.95, while Larry Deramus took second on the men's side with a time of 9:32.80 and Chris Shirk, seventh at 10:12.67.
To close out the competition, the men's 4x400 relay team of Drake Murphy, Charles Fentress, Payton Davis and Kerry Gleason took seventh with a time of 3:11.09.
Elsewhere in the Bryan Clay Invitational, Brittany Innis took 22nd in the 3000m steeplechase with a season best of 10:36.90, while Taryn Surratt set a new personal best with a time of 11:08.06. LaSean Davis raced to a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2.12.88, while Quinlin McGregor notched a season-best and conference-leading 3:48.03 time in the men's 1500m. Pedro Flores tallied a mark of 3:56.70 to finish close to his personal best, and Erick Rotich put forth a solid effort in the 3000m steeplechase at 9:24.02.
