SFA picks up third triumph of 2018
TEXARKANA, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team started its final week of the 2018 season on the right foot by posting a 6-0 shutout win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday afternoon at the Texarkana College Tennis Courts.
SFA's third win of 2018 saw the Ladyjacks dominate the Golden Lions in every facet of the game as Arkansas-Pine Bluff did not win a single game against the Ladyjacks in single action. Unable to play doubles matches due to the fact that Arkansas-Pine Bluff boasted only five competitors, the teams elected to let the singles matches alone decide things.
Sophomore Armelle Cerdan gave SFA a quick 1-0 lead by virtue of a forfeit win in the number-six flight. Following that result, Darinka Tiboldi bested Amira Ali 6-0, 6-0 on the second line for the second-straight singles win for the Ladyjack sophomore.
Kaja Ljubic and Gabi Guilarte followed up with identical 6-0, 6-0 wins against Kendalle Howard and Ana Padilla on the fourth and first singles lines respectively to clinch the win for SFA.
The Ladyjacks completed their shutout win by receiving a 6-0, 6-0 win by Vera Carvalho over Kaitlyn Hapke on the fifth singles line as well as a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Siân Payne against Amira Taylor in the third flight.
Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., SFA is set to take part in its final non-conference match of 2018 when the Ladyjacks head to Alexandria, La., to take on NAIA foe LSU-Alexandria.
