Ladyjacks shut out by Wildcats for second-straight season

ABILENE, Texas - In its final match in the month of March, the Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 shutout loss at Southland Conference adversary Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon at the Teague Events Center.
Due to high winds, the decision was made prior to the start of the match to move things indoors for the day and throughout the day the Ladyjacks were able to hang with the Wildcats but Abilene Christian eked out a number of close wins to complete their second-straight shutout over SFA.
Armelle Cerdan and Kaja Ljubia dropped a 6-2 decision to Sarah Adams and Nini Memishishi to begin doubles play before the Wildcats obtained a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win in the top doubles flight by Lucile Pothier and Whitney Williams. That ACU duo bested SFA's Gabi Guilarte and Nida Kamal by a 6-4 score.
Those two doubles wins by ACU offset Darinka Tiboldi and Siân Payne's 6-3 triumph over Ileana Mocciola and Autumn Crossnoe on the number-three line - SFA's only victory of the day.
On the number five singles line, Ljubic suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Crossnoe before the Wildcats used a 6-0, 6-2 victory by Pothier over Guilarte at top flight singles to open up a 3-0 lead.
Payne took six games from Memishishi in number three singles but ACU's competitor won the match 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the team win for the Wildcats. On the fourth line, Cerdan played a close match with Adams but again the home team made the right moves down the stretch and kept the shutout bid alive with Adams' 6-4, 6-4 win.
Tiboldi suffered a narrow 7-5, 6-4 loss to Williams at number two singles before Jordan Heney captured a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Kamal in the sixth singles flight to sew up the Wildcats' win.
Next weekend, the Ladyjacks return home to the Schilef Tennis Complex for their final two home matches of the 2018 campaign following a Friday afternoon non-conference tilt at Prairie View A&M. The Ladyjacks and Panthers are scheduled to battle at 1:00 p.m. that day before SFA starts a two-match Southland Conference weekend Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. against Incarnate Word.
