This weekend kickoff’s a difficult non-conference schedule for the Ladyjacks. Following the Bulldog Kickoff Classic, they will face three teams ranked in the top 20 of the USA Today/NFCA Coaches polls while all on the road. SFA’s new squad will be tested against No. 19 Texas A&M on Feb. 17, before they look at No. 9 Oregon and No. 17 Missouri at the Mizzou Tournament in March.
The Ladyjacks’ home opener is set for March 1 against Texas Southern at the SFA Softball Field. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. After the one game stand, SFA will travel to Missouri, and then finish their series with Texas Southern in Houston on March 8. Southland Conference play starts two days later in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Ladyjacks return with eight letterwinners from last season, including SLC preseason All-Conference picks senior infielder Brittany Lewis and junior catcher Taylor Fraccastoro. On the mound, juniors Calle Guffey and Makayla Sikes will handle the majority of the pitching with junior transfer Halie Vance from Texas Tech and two freshmen in reserve. The Ladyjacks are also welcoming 13 newcomers to the squad to help strengthen the outfield and several infield positions.
