NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin softball team partakes in its third big tournament of the season this weekend in Mobile, Ala. for the South Alabama Invitational. The Ladyjacks will first face Middle Tennessee on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Jaguar Field.
SFA will have the rest of Friday and part of Saturday to focus on their next opponent on Saturday. The Ladyjacks first game on Saturday is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. against Tennessee Tech. Then, the Ladyjacks will retake the diamond for another game at 7:00 p.m. against the host team South Alabama. Sunday will present a rematch of SFA vs. Tennessee Tech. The match will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Earlier in the week, SFA split a two-game series with Southern Miss. SFA lost the first game 6-2, but then came back and won the second as a shut out, 5-0. Senior Brittany Lewis led on the bats for SFA, and led off the first game with a homer to left field. She went 2-7 on the day with two runs and one RBI. Sophomore Emily Wolfe also went 2-7 with two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Lauren Becker had a total of two RBIs, after going 1-6 at the plate. Lewis also had the team-high 15 put-outs through both games. Junior Taylor Fraccastoro had seven from behind the plate in the second game.
Junior Halie Vance started the first game against Southern Miss, and then was relieved by junior Makayla Sikes. Both had equal stat lines for pitching three innings, giving up four hits and three runs each. Vance took the loss and falls to 0-2 on the season. The second game was pitched by junior Callee Guffey. She pitched the complete second game and improved her record to 2-2. She faced 29 batters and only allowed three hits. She struck out seven batters and claimed three put-outs in the field.
After the weekend, SFA will host their home opener against Texas Southern. The game is set for March 1, with the first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
