
Ladyjacks Take on Sam Houston State’s Track Kat Klash this Weekend

SFA bowling competes in its third tournament of the fall season at the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas; Ladyjacks seek first tournament title since spring 2016
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin bowling team looks for its second top-three finish of the fall season this weekend when the Ladyjacks compete in Sam Houston State's Track Kat Klash at the Emerald Lanes in Houston. The 22-team event, which gets underway Friday, Nov. 3 and wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 5, will be SFA's third competition this fall after placing third at Tulane's Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational and finishing fourth last weekend at McKendree University's Brunswick Bearcat Open.
Including fifth-ranked Sam Houston State and the sixth-ranked Ladyjacks, the three-day tournament will feature a total of 14 nationally-ranked teams. Among those are fellow Southland Bowling League members No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 17 Tulane. Each of the top-six teams in the nation and eight of the top 10 will be competing in Houston this weekend. Top-ranked McKendree, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 10 Central Missouri, No. 12 Delaware State, No. 18 North Carolina A&T, No. 19 UAB, No. 20 Prairie View A&M and No. 24 Youngstown State will join Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Louisiana Tech, Southern, Alabama State, Maryville University, Texas Southern and Grambling State to complete the field.
Friday's opening day of play will get started at 9:55 a.m. with five, five-game Baker matches. Saturday will feature five traditional team matches starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by three best 4-of-7 Baker matches Sunday in bracket play format. Total pinfall in Friday and Saturday's matches will determine seeding for Sunday's bracket play, which will begin at 8:20 a.m.
SFA went 10-3 at this past weekend's Brunswick Bearcat Open, picking up seven victories over national-ranked opponents. The Ladyjacks defeated No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 13 Monmouth, No. 14 Saint Francis University (Pa.) and No. 19 UAB as senior Stephanie Schwartz (Racine, Wis.) finished 14th among 177 total bowlers with a 203.20 per game average. True freshman Sarah Voiers (Chesterton, Ind.) and junior Morgan Reising (Lewisville, Texas) also placed among the top 30 bowlers with Voiers averaging a 194.80 for 22nd place and Reising a 191.60 for 27th place.
Through two tournaments this fall, four Ladyjacks are averaging 200 or better per game with Schwartz' 224.40 leading the way. Fellow senior Kelsi Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) is averaging a 207, followed by freshman Sarah Gill's (Attleboro, Mass.) (206.33) and junior Dakotah Hazlewood (Capron, Ill.) (205.60). Sophomore Amber Whitcomb (Austin, Texas) and freshman Annie Leihardt (Georgetown, Texas) will seek their first action of the season this weekend, while junior Paige Beeney (Salado, Texas), sophomore Megan Eaglehouse (Cibolo, Texas) and freshman Dakota Faichnie (Innisfil, Ontario, Canada) are set to contribute as well.
A season ago, SFA went 9-5 at the Track Kat Klash and turned in a seventh-place finish. Competing in each of the seven years of the tournament's existence, the Ladyjacks have finished no better than fifth at the annual event.
Host Sam Houston State captured the 2016 Track Kat Klash title and has won the tournament a total of three times. Nebraska claimed the event title in both 2014 and 2015 with Arkansas State being the 2013 champions of the tournament.
