NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams dominated the second and final day of the 2015 Skechers Carl Kight Invitational on Friday, winning 12 events on a beautiful day at Homer Bryce Stadium. The plethora of day two titles bumps the two-day total to 18 for SFA.
Senior Cody Rhodes started the morning with a huge personal record in the men's javelin throw to claim SFA's first title of the day. Rhodes saved his best throw for last, as the multi-event athlete posted 198 feet, four inches (60.46m) to PR by over three meters and leapfrog into first place.
The women had a big day on the track as Aliyah Davis (100m), Chasity Clark (200m), Bria McIver (100m hurdles) and Stephanie White (400m hurdles) all claimed first in their respective events. Davis took care of a 24-woman field with her time of 11.94 seconds, Clark came in at 24.30 seconds in a field of 22, McIver narrowly edged White in the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.18 seconds and White ran her championship race in 1:01 flat.
The Ladyjacks continued their success on the oval with wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Chelsi Gill, Clark, Laniya Taylor and Davis finished the 4x100 in 46.54 seconds while the team of Davis, Cierra Jefferson, Tiffany Williams and DeJernel Jordan used a time of 3:45.13 to win the 4x400 by over seven seconds.
Rounding out the women's championships on Friday was 2015 Southland Conference Indoor champion Melai Carter. The senior jumped 5-9 (1.75m) in the women's high jump to secure another first place performance.
In a packed field of 31 athletes, freshman My'Lik Kerley navigated his way to a top finish in the men's 400-meter dash. He just edged Central Akransas' Chance Tanner by eight hundredths of a second for the win.
Also on the track, the Lumberjacks secured the top spot in the men's 400-meter hurdles after freshman Kerry Gleason record a time of 14.88 seconds. In the first running event of the day, the team of DeAndre Burns, Aaron Piper, Jared Love and Trevon Caudle joined the Ladyjacks for the 4x100 meter men/women sweep. Down the final straightaway, SFA pulled just in front of the team from Northwestern State for a total time of 40.88 seconds.
Finally, Bryce Willard joined Carter with a men/women sweep of the high jump after leaping 6-8.75 (2.05m) to win the event on the men's side.
The `Jacks will next be in action next Saturday, April 11 at the Texas Invitational in Austin. Events are slated to start at 10:00 a.m.
