FRISCO, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin senior softball player Shalie Day has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The SLC weekly award is the first for the Ladyjacks in 2015.
Day had a huge week offensively, leading the Ladyjacks to a 4-0 record in the four games she played in last week, including a 3-0 sweep against Abilene Christian over the weekend. She hit the ball at an efficient .667 clip (8-for-12), scored five runs, hit two doubles and two home runs, drove in eight RBI and drew four walks over the span. She also compiled a staggering 1.333 slugging percentage and a .765 on base percentage.
In the second game of a Friday doubleheader against ACU, Day went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two runs, two doubles, a home run and five RBI to propel SFA to a thrilling 14-13 victory. Overall in the weekend series, the Ladyjacks scored 40 runs and hit 10 home runs, with Day in the center of the offensive outburst.
A native of Ashdown, Arkansas, Day owns a .250 batting average in 40 games played this season. The Preseason All-SLC First Team selection has scored 16 runs, hit five homers and recorded 18 RBI so far during her senior campaign.
Day and the Ladyjacks will start a five-game homestand this Wednesday against ULM before hosting Incarnate Word for a three-game set starting on Friday afternoon. All five contests will be played at SFA Softball Field.
