FRISCO, Texas – Following an outstanding two-match stretch last week, Stephen F. Austin junior middle blocker Justice Walker earned the title of Southland Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Exactly one-third (33) of the Ladyjacks’ 100 kills came off the hands of Walker during a 2-0 week in which she helped SFA lock up the number-three seed for the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. Last Thursday evening against Lamar, the junior nearly subdued the Cardinals all by herself by submitting a career-best 21 terminations on an attack percentage of .559 to lead SFA in a 3-1 win.
The other 12 winners of her 33-termination assault on opposing defenses came in SFA’s 3-0 triumph over Northwestern State. In that sweep of the Lady Demons, the Fort Worth, Texas, product swung at a clip of .524
As a direct result of her .545 attacking rate over those two wins, Walker’s name rose from eighth to sixth in the 13-team SLC in terms of hitting percentage by the time the week was in the books. She owns an attack percentage of .318 this season and that number only gets better in league skirmishes where she hits .350 – the third-highest mark in the SLC. Upon the week’s end, Walker became the first SFA player in 2015 to eclipse the 300-kill mark.
Completing her dual-threat reputation with the third-best blocks per set average in Southland Conferences match (1.09), the junior added six block assists for the Ladyjacks in their 2-0 showing in Shelton Gym, upping her rejection total to 96 (0.85/set) this season.
Along with the rest of the Ladyjacks, Walker will make her penultimate 2015 appearance in Shelton Gym on Thursday evening when SFA welcomes Abilene Christian to Nacogdoches for a 6:30 p.m., Southland Conference battle.
