BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team picked up their first tie of the season, playing LSU to a 0-0 double overtime draw at the LSU Soccer Stadium on Monday.
"What a night,” head coach Wally Crittenden said. “Our kids came to play and so did LSU. There is something special about being prepared and able to execute against a team who is also well prepared. Anyone fortunate enough to watch this game, witnessed two teams leaving everything they had on the field. Sure there are things we can do better. There always are, but there was a lot of things we did that were really good. With the competitive spirit this team continues to show against the best competition, home or away, there is not a more battle-tested team in the conference. Now, we need to heal, regroup, and rededicate ourselves to two more games this weekend that I am sure will demand our best efforts. I trust this team and I am confident they will be ready to play."
SFA (2-2-1) and the Tigers (3-2-1) ended in a stalemate after 110 minutes of play, following an hour-long weather delay before the match.
The Ladyjacks (15) and LSU (26) combined for 41 shots, as neither was able to find the back of the net. SFA's 15 shots, six on goal, tied its season-high. The Ladyjacks also took 15 shots against Nevada (Aug. 29).
Senior forward Chelsea Raymond led the SFA attack, recording five shots, with two landing on goal, across 79 minutes played. Fellow senior Zuri Prince finished with three shots, while sophomore Amanda Doyle and freshman Hanna Barker finished with two, as all three recorded one shot on goal. Dallas Brown, Hailey Hunt and Chloe Fowler, each took one shot.
Senior Morgan Glick (2-2-1) recorded 10 saves for the Ladyjacks across the full 110 minutes in the next.
SFA and the Tigers played to a draw after 90 minutes of play in regulation, forcing overtime with the golden goal rule in effect. However after two 10-minute overtime periods, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, the first tie of the season for either team.
The Ladyjacks will play one more match in the state of Louisiana, heading to Louisiana-Monroe for a 4 p.m. tilt on Friday.
