NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Southland Conference action is in full swing and the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks are looking to remain in the top three in the standings as they head to a weekend series at Houston Baptist.
The Ladyjacks and Huskies will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and play the series finale at 2 p.m. Sunday.
SFA (14-15, 5-3) comes into this weekend’s series after winning two of three against the preseason Southland favorite Northwestern State last week at home.
The Ladyjacks have a triple threat in the meat of the lineup with Brittany Lewis, Shalie Day and Katelyn Standley all with at least 22 RBI this season. Day has three home runs during conference play to sit one behind the leaders.
Another leader for the Ladyjacks is senior pitcher Carlie Thomas. She leads the league with 46 strikeouts in league play and is 4-1 in five starts. Her ERA is among the league leaders as well.
HBU (9-16, 5-4) is half a game behind SFA in the conference standings just three weeks into league play. Melissa Herman leads the Huskies at the plate with a .259 batting average in conference games. She also has hit three homers.
The Huskies are coming off a 12-4 loss in five innings at UTSA on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks defeated UTSA at home earlier this year 9-1 in six innings
