NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After notching three wins last weekend against NCAA Tournament teams, the Stephen F. Austin softball team looks to ride a wave of momentum into a mid-week matchup at McNeese State on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks and Cowgirls are set for a 5 p.m. first pitch doubleheader in Lake Charles, La.
The Ladyjacks (3-5) defeated No. 8 Nebraska 1-0 on Saturday at the Houston Hilton Plaza Classic after defeating Army in back-to-back games.
Wednesday's games against McNeese State (5-5) will not count toward the Southland Conference standings.
The Cowgirls have some quality wins already this season as well. McNeese opened the 2014 season with a victory over No. 21 UAB by the score of 5-3 and also tallied a victory at No. 8 Texas A&M during the Aggies' home tournament. McNeese also fell to Texas A&M in a later game in the tournament.
SFA has two starters hitting over .400 so far this season led by first baseman Shalie Day at .435 and freshman pitcher and designated player Brittany Lewis at .423.
General admission tickets at McNeese State are just $5 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. Fans unable to attend can follow live stats online with a link provided on the softball schedule page at sfajacks.com.
After taking on the Cowgirls, SFA will head to the Texas Shootout hosted by North Texas. The Ladyjacks will take on Sam Houston State, Prairie View A&M, Abilene Christian and UNT over the weekend.
