NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s volleyball team posted another convincing conference victory on Thursday night, beating Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-18) in Shelton Gym. The Ladyjacks are now 7-0 and have won 21 of 22 sets played in the Southland Conference.
Sophomore Justice Walker continued to attack at an efficient rate, posting 11 kills on .444 hitting for SFA (14-7, 7-0). She has recorded double-digit kills and hit .400 or better in each of the last three matches.
“Justice did a great job tonight,” said head coach Debbie Humphreys. “She was pretty much getting a kill at will there for awhile. It didn’t matter which place she ran, she was just taking a big swing and getting a kill. She got on fire early and certainly that momentum carries over and she was able to keep that going throughout the majority of the match. It was a big night for her and we really needed it.”
Senior Jill Ivy finished the night with 10 kills – her 17th double-digit kill effort of the season. The outside hitter is just four kills away from moving into the top ten on SFA’s all-time career kills list. She currently has 271 on the season and 1,252 over her four-year career.
The Ladyjacks swung at a .290 mark and used a .387 hitting effort in the first set to jump out to a huge lead and coast for a 25-10 victory.
Senior Paige Holland had another great night distributing that attack and was all over the court for SFA. The setter finished with 32 assists, five kills and seven digs.
Southeastern Louisiana (7-12, 4-3 SLC) struggled to get anything going offensively and ended the night with an overall attack percentage of .086. The low mark was due in large part to the Ladyjack service game, which kept the Lady Lions off balance all night. SFA got two service aces from freshman Lexus Cain and another from Ivy, while getting tough serves throughout the match.
Juniors Tori Bates and OJ Olson each notched 10 digs for the Ladyjacks and Bates chipped in a team-high four blocks to lead the defense.
SFA took care of SLU 25-19 in the second set and 25-18 in the third to complete its sixth sweep in SLC play. The Ladyjacks trailed just twice on the entire evening.
SFA will look to improve to 8-0 in the conference when they return to Shelton Gym on Saturday to host New Orleans. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
“Saturday’s match is going to come down to our team taking care of the execution on our side of the court,” Humphreys said. “If we do that we’ll be in good shape.”
