USF Under Armour Invitational Tournament Central
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After an eight day layoff away from the diamond, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team returns to action on Friday when they take part in the USF Under Armour Invitational beginning with Maine at 10 a.m. (CT) in Clearwater, Fla.
All games will be played at the Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex, located in Clearwater, Fla., just across the bay from Tampa. The award-winning facility has nine softball fields that will accommodate the 17 participating teams.
The Ladyjacks will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak after dropping the finale of the Aggie Classic to Texas A&M and then also losing a doubleheader to the No. 9 Aggies back on Feb. 20.
SFA has been led offensively by junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana, who is the team-leader in batting average (.313), runs (T-4), hits (10), doubles (3), RBI (7) and on-base percentage (.463). Overall the Ladyjacks are batting just .174 as a team but have already seen some of the best pitching in the nation.
In the circle the Ladyjacks are led by junior hurler Carlie Thomas. The Huntington, Texas native leads the team with a 2.82 ERA and has earned all four victories. Thomas already has five complete games and has struckout 44 batters in just 44.2 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .257 against Thomas.
Following this tournament the Ladyjacks will finally play their home opener on March 6 when they host Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m.
