LAKE CHARLES, La. - It did not take long for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks to take care of business on Thursday night, rejecting 11 shots and running its win streak to five matches with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15) win over McNeese State at Memorial Gym.
Sabrina Burns led all players with 13 kills and eight blocks in helping the Ladyjacks (12-3, 3-0 SLC) to their fourth sweep of the season. Jill Ivy had 10 kills and five blocks, while Katzy Randall had a match-high 13 digs. Paige Holland had 33 assists to go along with five kills, but more importantly guided the Ladyjacks to a .257 attack percentage, its second-highest attack percentage of the season.
"Our offense was solid tonight," head coach Debbie Humprheys said. "We passed extremely well, which led to successful hitting. We were focused to play solid volleyball and took care of business in just three sets."
In addition to an exceptional offensive night, the Ladyjack defense showed up as well, holding McNeese State (3-11, 0-3 SLC) to just .036 hitting and winning the block battle 11-6.
SFA got five kills apiece from Ivy and Bates in the first set, swinging .294 on its way to a four-point win to take the early lead on the Cowgirls. The Ladyjacks used a 7-2 run to open up a five-point lead midway through the set before a pair of kills from Burns helped fuel SFA's final six scores to close out the set.
Things took a while to click for SFA in the second set, falling behind 15-10 before a pair of Cowgirl errors ignited a 15-3 Ladyjack run that lasted to the end of the set. SFA drew even at 18-18, scoring the final eight points of the set, four of which came on kills from Burns.
The Ladyjacks then wasted no time closing things out in three, holding the Cowgirls to just -.029 hitting in the third frame while hitting .222 itself behind three kills apiece from Holland, Ivy and Cara Leslie.
SFA will try and run its win streak to six in a row when it travels to Beaumont on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match at Lamar.
