NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Fifteen games into the season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team will finally have their home opener on Wednesday when they host Louisiana Tech at 4 p.m. at the SFA Softball Field.
SFA was scheduled to have their home opener Feb. 15 in a doubleheader against Houston Baptist but was postponed due to inclement weather. The Ladyjacks have gone 2-3 in each of their last two tournaments, including this previous weekend at the Baylor Texas Shootout.
SFA will be looking to turnaround an offense that has scored 48 runs thus far and is batting .209 as a team. Sophomore infielder Cadie Weaver has been a bright spot for the Ladyjacks and leads the team in batting average (.342), runs (7), hits (13) and RBI's (10).
As a pitching staff, SFA has a combined 5.12 ERA in 93 innings of work. Carlie Thomas leads the team in wins (3) and has a 4.12 ERA in a team-leading 54.1 innings. Thomas also has a team-best 42 strikeouts.
Louisiana Tech (6-7) is coming off a successful weekend in which they went 3-1 at the Southern Miss Tournament, beating Mississippi Valley State (7-5), IUPI (2-1) and Southern Miss (13-6).
Junior infielder Janna Frandrup leads the Lady Techsters in both batting average (.433) and RBI's (15). Junior Michelle Jones has had a solid start to the season in the circle, compiling a 4-2 record with a 2.10 ERA in 33 innings pitched.
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against SFA, 38-19.
Following Wednesday's single game against the Lady Techsters, SFA will once again hit the road this weekend for the Ragin' Cajun Invitational, Feb. 24-26. Scheduled opponents include Nicholls State, Kentucky, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Louisiana-Lafayette.
