FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin libero Madison Hanlan was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week after conference officials announced the selection on Monday afternoon.
It is the second time this season Hanlan has received the honor and the first time since the initial week of the season. It is the fifth time in Hanlan's career she has received the weekly award, and the sixth time SFA has pulled off the feat this season, the most of any program in the league.
Hanlan averaged 7.20 digs per set in two matches over the weekend, but her 47-dig performance in a five-set win at Nicholls on Saturday that stood above the rest.
That performance set a new SFA school record, moving her past Stephanie Figgers' single-match record of 41 set in 2006, and is the most of any Southland player since McNeese State's Jessica Strama had 62 in a match in 2006.
It is also the second-most digs in a single match in the nation this year, according to the latest statistic report released by the AVCA.
That came on the heels of a 25-dig match at Southeastern on Thursday and helped vault her into third place in digs in the conference with 4.69 digs per set.
Hanland and the Ladyjacks hit the court again on Wednesday at home in a non-conference match against North Texas before wrapping up its season series with Northwestern State on Friday in Natchitoches.
