SFA Softball Announces 2012 Schedule

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Fourteen home dates highlight the 2012 Stephen F. Austin softball schedule, announced Thursday by the SFA athletics department. The Ladyjacks are slated to play a total of 16 home games with just two doubleheaders scheduled for the third season at the SFA Softball Field.
SFA opens the season on Feb. 10-12 in the Florida State Tournament, an event that features Ole Miss, Tennessee Tech and Florida State. The Ladyjacks then return home for a doubleheader against Houston Baptist on Feb. 15, before heading back out on the road for the Troy Cox Classic at New Mexico State, Feb. 17-19.
The Ladyjacks will play five games that feature Colorado State, Weber State, Nebraska and New Mexico State. SFA will then compete in the Texas Shootout Baylor Tournament, Feb. 24-26. UTEP, Texas State, North Texas and Baylor will be among the participants in the three-day tourney.
Following a single home game against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 26, the Ladyjacks will play in their final regular season tournament March 2-4 at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational at Louisiana-Lafayette. Featured teams will be Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Kentucky, Nicholls State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Once they put tournament play behind them, the Ladyjacks will travel to Louisiana-Monroe on March 7 before returning home to kickoff Southland Conference play against McNeese State, Mar. 9-10.
The remainder of the regular season is sprinkled with six non-conference dates, which includes home dates against Monmouth and Louisiana-Monroe with four more road games at Baylor, Houston Baptist, Louisiana Tech and North Texas.
The conference slate includes home series against Nicholls State (March 23 and 24), UT Arlington (March 30 and 31), Central Arkansas (April 20 and 21) and the regular-season finale against UTSA (May 4 and5).
Road conference series will be at Texas State (March 16 and 17), at Sam Houston State (DH-March 27), at Northwestern State (April 6 and 7), at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (April 13 and 14) and at Southeastern Louisiana (April 27 and 28).
The Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled for May 10-12 in San Antonio, Texas.
