NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will play its home opener Wednesday with a doubleheader against No. 23 Texas A&M. The double dip against the Aggies starts at 2 p.m. from the SFA Softball Complex.
The doubleheader with the Aggies marks the first action against a Big XII opponent in the SFA Softball Complex, which opened last season. The Ladyjacks will also host a doubleheader against Baylor this season.
SFA comes into the twin billing looking for its first win of the season. The Ladyjacks went 0-4 over the weekend at the season-opening Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational. The field featured Ohio, Southern Illinois, No. 8 Michigan and Houston.
Junior Amber Price batted .429 in the Houston tournament to lead SFA at the plate. But the Ladyjacks hit just .175 as a team and .188 in 32 at-bats with runners in scoring position. SFA left 34 runners stranded in the four games.
Texas A&M is 2-3 on the young season after opening the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Aggies picked up wins over Cal State Fullerton and Bradley, suffering losses to Oregon, BYU and Arizona. All three losses came against ranked teams, including Arizona, which is No. 1 nationally.
The Aggies bat .182 as a team, led by Emily Albus' .429 average. Texas A&M drew 23 walks as a team on opening weekend, while Aggie pitching only issued seven free passes. The A&M pitching staff comes in with a 4.64 ERA, led by Lindsey Sisk's 3.95 mark.
Live stats for both games will be available via GameTracker at SFAJacks.com.
