HAMMOND, La. - The Ladyjack volleyball team got a combined 25 kills from MC Bottles and Jill Ivy, and hit .277 for the afternoon en route to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 27-25) sweep of Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at the University Center.
SFA (10-11, 3-4 SLC) snapped modest two-match losing streak with the win, while handing the Lions (4-19, 0-6 SLC) their 10th consecutive defeat.
Bottles' 13 kills led all players on offense, while Ivy's 12 kills made the pair the only two in the match with double-figure kills. Katzy Randall's 14 digs led all players in that category, while Melissa Miksch added 11 and Michaela Spicer had 10. Paige Holland dished out 35 assists, as well as tallying five digs and three kills.
SFA swung at least .333 in two of the three sets, while holding the Lions to less than .200 in two of three as well.
The Ladyjacks snapped a 12-12 tie in the first set with a 5-0 run and cruised from there to take a 1-0 lead, and overcame a 14-8 deficit in the second set with a 9-2 run to eventually win 25-22 on one of Madison Hanlan's three service aces for the day.
The third set never saw either team able to stretch out a lead with neither leading by more than two points. SFA got a pair of match-point tries and finally ended things when Miksch found Ivy for the match-clinching kill.
SFA comes back home this week to take on Texas State and UT-Arlington at Shelton Gym. Thursday's match vs the Bobcats is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
