NACOGODCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head softball coach Gay McNutt was inducted into the Texas A&M Letterman's Hall of Fame on Sept. 17.
McNutt was inducted along with Chet Brooks (football), Cody Risien (football), Katy Doyle (track), Ronnie Peret (basketball) and Brian Thomas (baseball).Entering her fifth season at SFA, McNutt was also recognized at a banquet honoring the inductees and at Kyle Field during the Texas A&M-Idaho football game.
McNutt was a four-year starter behind the plate at Texas A&M, starring for the Aggies from 1982-1985. She was named to the all-region team each of those four years and earned All-American honors as a senior in 1985. McNutt, who served as team captain in each of her last two seasons at A&M, helped lead the Aggies to a pair of national championships.
McNutt is currently still number two all-time in Aggies history in games played (251) and is number one in putouts (1,896).
Under McNutt's guidance, the Ladyjacks posted their best record in program history in 2010 (29-20) and won a share of the Southland Conference title with a 20-10 league record.
