SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team started the 2011 season 2-0 with dominant wins over Trinity (TX), 7-0, and St. Mary's (TX), 7-0, Saturday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.
"We started a little slow in the morning match," said Sullivan. "But I was proud of how the girls responded to take control of the match. I felt like we came out a little more focused against St. Mary's.
"This was a physical challenge for our girls, to start the season with a doubleheader. With such a short lineup, all six had to play every point, and it was a hot day but they have worked hard to get in shape and were prepared," added Sullivan.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to a quick start by winning the doubles competition in both matches. SFA's Alina Shazkho and Ksenia Berestetska went 2-0 in doubles play along with Paola Montuenga and Alice Pacaut. The only setback SFA suffered all day was at No. 3 doubles.
Shazhko also got the Ladyjacks out to a quick start winning both of her singles matches at No. 1 singles. The Ladyjacks swept all twelve singles matches and recorded 10 shutout sets. Of the twelve singles matches, eleven of the victories were recorded in straight sets.
The Ladyjacks will open the home portion of their schedule Wednesday when they host Abilene Christian. The match against ACU is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
