NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Wednesday doubleheader against Houston Baptist has been moved from SFA Field to Angelina College's softball field in Lufkin. The twin bill will start at 2 p.m.
Wednesday's games will mark the second meeting this season between SFA and the Huskies. The Ladyjacks won the initial showdown, 5-1, on Feb. 24 in Houston. Briana Bishop hit a pair of two-run home runs in the contest, breaking the SFA career RBI mark in the process.
Since that game, SFA has won five of six contests, including a three-game sweep of Sam Houston State in the Southland Conference opener. The Ladyjacks (9-7) have outscored the opposition, 37-17, in that stretch and enter this week in a tie for the Southland lead with a 5-1 league record.
SFA is batting .250 as a team, led by Bishop's .417 average. Her five home runs and 14 RBI also lead the team, as does her .792 slugging percentage. Kayla Gutowski is second on the team with a .326 average. Gutowski hit two home runs last week, when she drove in eight of the 11 RBI she's amassed this season. Gutowski belted a grand slam Sunday in the decisive game against UTSA.
The Huskies are 5-9 on the season and are just 2-7 since their loss to SFA. HBU bats .240 as a team, while the Huskies pitching staff has combined for a 4.06 ERA. HBU was scheduled to host Monmouth in a doubleheader Tuesday, but the games were canceled due to inclement weather.
Monmouth is set to play a doubleheader at SFA on Thursday, following its twin bill at Sam Houston on Wednesday. SFA's two-game set against the Hawks is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at SFA Field. Monmouth comes into the week with a 1-4 record, having lost four straight after a season-opening win over Northern Colorado in the Texas A&M Invitational.
