
SFA Softball Set For OSU Tournament

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team opens play Friday in the Oklahoma State Mizuno Classic. The Ladyjacks will take on Centenary and host team Oklahoma State on the opening day of the four-team tournament. SFA will play Texas Wesleyan Saturday.
The tournament opens with a round-robin format and will be seeded for a three-round bracket after all the teams have played one another. SFA will take on Centenary at noon, then play Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Friday. The Ladyjacks' date with Texas Wesleyan is set for a noon start Saturday.
SFA is coming off a doubleheader split against North Texas on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks won the first game, 5-2, then dropped a 3-2 decision in Game 2. It was the fifth one-run loss in SFA's last seven games.
Sophomore Kendal Harper leads the team with her .446 batting average. She is also tops on the squad with 10 extra-base, and her 13 RBI are tied with Jessica Tullos for the team lead. Benet Higgs is batting .326 -- second on the team -- and her four triples are tied with Harper for the team lead.
Freshman ace Monika Covington continues to lead the SFA pitching staff. She is 8-4 on the season with a 1.44 ERA and a team-best 74 strikeouts.
