NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will take a break from Southland Conference play with a mid-week game against Centenary College Wednesday in Shreveport, La. The game against the Ladies is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Centenary comes into the game as the hottest team in the Summit League and the hottest Ladies team in school history. Centenary set a school record last week when the Ladies knocked off Louisiana-Monroe on the road, 7-1, for their 13th consecutive victory. Centenary has not lost since a 5-1 defeat at Oklahoma State on March 9. The Ladies are 22-15 overall this season with a conference-leading 9-0 mark in the Summit League.
SFA is 23-14 on the year and in third place at 10-4 in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks are coming off a two-game split in their rain-shortened weekend series against Southeastern Louisiana. The Lady Lions took Game 1, 4-0, before SFA rallied for a 7-0 win in the second game. The Ladyjacks held a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning in Sunday's finale before the game was called due to rain and lightning.
Three SFA players -- Jessica Tullos, Monica Hirsch and Briana Bishop -- batted .500 in the doubleheader, led by Tullos' two RBI and seventh home run of the season. She is tied with Ashley Struchtemeyer for the team lead. Lauren Luetge started and pitched all seven innings of SFA's 7-0 shutout win. She scattered six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
SFA has already played Centenary once this season. At the same Mizuno Classic Tournament where the Ladies suffered their last loss, the Ladyjacks took an 8-0 win over Centenary. SFA outhit the Ladies, 14-6, with five different Ladyjacks recording multiple base knocks in the game. Luetge started and pitched all six innings, recording four strikeouts.
