NACOGDOCHES - In a fierce match between the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, SFA extended its win streak to 17 straight matches and snapped the Islanders five-game streak with a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon. The win keeps the Ladyjacks perfect in SLC action at 11-0 and gives SFA a 23-3 overall mark. For the Islanders, the loss sends their SLC record to 5-7 and gives them a 5-17 overall record.
After the Ladyjacks cruised to a 30-16 Game 1 victory, the Islanders did not let SFA get away that easily again. TAMUCC fought hardest in Game 3 taking up to a five-point lead, but it couldn't hang on as SFA rallied at the end for a 30-28 win.
In their last match at the William R. Johnson Coliseum, seniors Stephanie Figgers and Cristin Hopkin had career nights. Figgers' 34 digs gave her a season total of 624 to break her own record of 621 set last season. Hopkin collected a career-high 12 digs in the match.
