ARLINGTON, Texas - With 21 kills, 10 digs, and a .500 hitting percentage, sophomore Shelly Swendig had a career night leading the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team to a share of the Southland Conference regular season title. The aforementioned numbers were all career-highs for the Garland, Texas, native. SFA, who has taken its third consecutive SLC title, remains perfect in SLC play with a 13-0 record and is 24-3 this season. The Mavericks fell to 10-3 in league play and 21-8 overall.
The Mavericks, who have been trailing the Ladyjacks closely all season, were handed their third conference loss of the season with the 30-28, 30-23, 30-25 sweep. And with only three matches to go, the victory guarantees SFA at least a share of the league title.
As a team, the Ladyjacks hit .289 led by Swendig's 21 kills with only one error for a .500 hitting percentage. Close behind was junior Traci Rohde who knocked down 18 kills and hit .359. Railey also chipped in with 13 kills and dished out 12 digs in the outing.
Swendig collected 10 digs against the Mavericks to notch the first double-double of her career. She also put up five blocks in the match. Jami Hill led SFA's defense with 21 digs and Stephanie Figgers was right behind with 20. JJ Jones collected 58 assists in the outing.
The Ladyjacks will return to the court Saturday when they travel to San Marcos to face Texas State at 4 p.m. from Strahan Coliseum.
