
Emerson Wins Javelin Throw At Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas -- Sarah Emerson won the Women's Javelin throw at the Texas Relays Friday with a throw of 158-04, which tied the school record. She finished just ahead of Ashley Kaufman of Akron and Amanda Harmate of Texas A&M in the event to claim the individual title for the Women's Javelin Section B.
Her performance highlighted the day for Stephen F. Austin track and field at the annual event hosted by the University of Texas.
Three other Ladyjack track and field athletes reached the finals in their resepective events Friday.
Jocelyn Stevens finished eighth in the Women's High Jump Section B with a jump of 5-07, finishing four inches shy of division winner Kirsten Miller of Southern Miss. Miller cleared 5-11 to claim the high jump title.
In the women's shot, Markeisha Edwards finished tenth with a toss of 45-3.75 and Kristina Windham finished sixth in the women's pole vault with a vault of 11-11.75. Senior Teresa Murray was the second Ladyjack to set tie a school-record when she cleared a height of 5-10.00 in the high jump.
Johnny Thacker ran a 10.77 in the men's 100-meter dash, but missed 1qualifying for the finals by two-tenths of a second.
The event continues Saturday in Austin.
