NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team continued its trek through Southland Conference play Friday afternoon facing Texas-Arlington. The Ladyjacks battled hard but fell in a close match, 5-2, to the Lady Mavs. The Ladyjacks are now 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the Southland Conference.
All three doubles matches were close, but the Lady Mavs got the upperhand by winning all three matches for the point. The Ladyjacks responded in singles play by picking victories at Nos. 2 and 6 singles. Sophomore Laura Harrison defeated the Lady Mavs' Anete Rozkain, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while junior Kama Scott picked up a 6-3, 6-0, victory over UTA's Jessica Shepard at the No. 6 spot.
But the Ladyjacks could get no closer as Texas-Arlington held on for the victory.
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they travel to Orlando, Fla., for the UCF Spring Break Tennis Tournament. The Ladyjacks will face Bucknell at 8 a.m., and return to the court at 6 p.m., to face Cleveland State.
