ARLINGTON -- The Lumeberjacks paid a visit to one of their least favorite places Wednesday night and came away from Texas Hall with a 62-55 setback to the Mavericks of UT-Arlington. The Lumberjacks (9-8, 3-3) had their worst shooting night of the year in losing for the 16th time in 20 trips to Texas Hall since joining the Southland Conference.
UT-Arlington (9-8, 4-3) was led by the Southland Conference's leading scorer and rebounder, Steven Thomas, who finished with a game high 24-points and 11 rebounds. Thomas scored 18 points in the second half of play. Rodrick Epps was the only other Maverick in double figures with 11 points.
SFA was led by Hank Rivers' second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Paez and Josh Porter scored 13 each for the Lumberjacks. Marcus Clark had scored 20 or more points in each of the last four games for the Lumberjacks, but was held scoreless on an 0-9 shooting night for the 'Jacks.
The Lumberjacks' second half struggles continued Wednesday night as SFA shot just 28.2 percent in the second half (11-39) and finished the game at 30.9 percent overall (21-68), their worst shooting night of the season.
Neither team shot well in the first half but the Mavericks shot an even 50 percent in the second half of play which allowed UTA to outscore the 'Jacks 35-32 after halftime and stretch a four ppoint first half lead to the 62-55 final.
