NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Upon his hiring on March 7th, 2025, Coach Matt Braeuer made a commitment to get SFA Basketball back to its peak. As part of his pledge, Coach Braeuer and his wife Katie, made a financial commitment to support the philanthropic causes of Greek Life on campus, meeting with councils and chapters across campus to gain their support. They launched the Greek Games competition, a challenge to all Greek organizations on campus to have the highest weighted attendance over the course of the 2025-2026 season.
Many student organizations and Greek chapters stepped up throughout the year, but at the end of the season, one chapter stood above the rest.
Phi Kappa Psi, Texas Epsilon, chartered in 2002, has 21 active members and attended all but one home Lumberjack basketball game. Whether you were watching on TV or in the Coliseum, their presence was felt at the front of the student section by visiting teams. Peter Kodlubanski, President of the Texas Epsilon chapter, said, "Showing up to those games meant more than just basketball to us. It was a chance to have all of my brothers together, bonding over school spirit and something we all care about. Getting to see all of the IFC fraternities come together for the same purpose was really special. This being the first season something like this was done makes it even more meaningful, especially seeing how great of a season the team had. Coach Braeuer's generosity in turning what we earned into a donation for Nacogdoches HOPE made it all even more rewarding. Knowing that our support is now helping people in the community means a lot to all of us. Phi Kappa Psi will definitely be back in the student section next season."
Nacogdoches HOPE, established in 1994, provides supplemental food to Nacogdoches County residents in need. Clients can visit the pantry one time per week to obtain food. HOPE serves food-insecure families and individuals in Nacogdoches County which may include senior citizens, people with disabilities, veterans, homeless, and others, serving roughly 500 families per week. HOPE is a client choice food pantry, which allows individuals to select the food most appropriate for their dietary needs and storage. In partnership with the East Texas Food Bank, HOPE is enabled to acquire food for a fraction of the retail price. HOPE participates in food-rescue partnerships with local grocers to provide recipients with fresh and healthy food choice options. Deidra Harrison, one of many of the volunteers that lead Nacogdoches HOPE said, "This very generous donation to Nacogdoches HOPE will help HOPE provide food for 500 families in Nacogdoches County for one week! What a blessing this is to so many!"
From the 2024-25 to the 2025-26 seasons, SFA ranked no. 10 in the country in raw average attendance growth, with a 59.1% increase in attendance.
