NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team dropped its third match in its last four outings, falling to Southern Methodist, 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-26), Tuesday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 8-4 (.667) on the season.
SMU dominated the match from the beginning as three Mustangs recorded double-figure kills. SMU was led by Jacky Niederstadt who finished the match with 14 kills and 22 digs.
The Ladyjacks tried to fight their way back into the match, rallying in game three to tie the score at 24. Junior Amelia Mayeaux sparked SFA off the bench with seven kills and a match-high five blocks. Classmate Lauren Stevens added a team-best nine kills and 13 digs but it wasn't enough as SFA lost its fourth match of the season.
Sophomore Stephanie Figgers led SFA defensively recording 15 digs.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they travel to Arlington, Texas, to face the Lady Mavs. The match against Texas-Arlington is slated to begin 7 p.m., from Texas Hall.
