ARLINGTON, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team fought hard but came up short against Texas-Arlington Friday night, losing to the Lady Mavs, 3-2 (33-31, 28-30, 30-28, 29-31, 15-9). The Ladyjacks are now 8-5 (.615) on the season and 1-3 (.250) in SLC play.
After falling behind, 2-1, the Ladyjacks battled back in game four to win 31-29 behind senior Deborah Kirkham's career-high 22 kills and 16 digs. She was one of five players to record double-figure kills in the match as sophomore Laura Cramer recorded 15 kills and freshman Jami Hill had a big night with 13 kills and a career-high 28 digs. But it wasn't enough as the Lady Mavs won the fifth and final game by the score of 15-9 behind Ashley Van Antwerp's match-high 24 kills.
The Ladyjacks were tough defensively as four players recorded double-figure digs led by sophomore Stephanie Figgers who notched a match-high 31. SFA also recorded 14 blocks.
The Ladyjacks return to action Tuesday when they return home to host Southeastern Louisiana. The match against the Lady Lions is set to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
