LAKE CHARLES, La. - For the third consecutive season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team has opened the Southland Conference schedule against McNeese State and also for the third-straight year SFA has come away victorious. The Ladyjacks defeated McNeese State, 4-1, Wednesday evening in Lake Charles, La. The Ladyjacks are now 3-3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Senior Sophia Pantazis put the Ladyjacks on the scoreboard with her goal at the 13:02 mark to give the Ladyjacks the early advantage. Junior Lauren Cummings gave SFA a two-goal lead with her first goal of the season in the 17th minute. The Ladyjacks added a third goal right before halftime to go up 3-0 heading into the intermission.
Junior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki recorded 77 minutes of shutout action before being replaced late in the game by sophomore Vanessa Callaway. Michalezki notched four saves in the contest.
McNeese State didn't put a dent in the scoreboard until the 86th minute of action, but sophomore Shahin Pabani answered right back two minutes later with a goal of her own.
Freshman Kristel Lindsey has become source of offense for the Ladyjacks over the last three games. Lindsey netted the game's third goal against the Cowgirls marking her fourth goal in the team's last three games.
"This was a great start to our conference season," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "It is always tough to win on the road, but we came out strong today and played really well. I'm proud of the way we played."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they return home to face Nicholls State. The game against the Lady Colonels is set to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
