DALLAS, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to the nation's 27th best team Friday night. SFA led St. Mary's late in the game but fell in overtime, 3-2. SFA is now 1-3-1 on the season.
Trailing by a goal in the first half, junior Kim Gray tied the game at one, netting her first goal of the season. The score would remain tied at the intermission. Senior Sophia Pantazis gave SFA a 2-1 lead in the second half with her first goal of the year. Freshman Kristel Lindsey was credited with the assist on both Ladyjack goals.
St. Mary's rallied late to tie the game within the final 10 minutes and then scored the gamewinner early in the overtime period.
"It was a disappointing loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "It was disappointing to come so close to beating a great team and then not get the win. They came into tonight's game ranked 27th in the nation. St. Mary's is a great team with great athletes. I felt we did a great job of playing with them tonight. This team is headed in the right direction going into conference play."
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they return home to face Tulsa. The game against the Golden Hurricane is slated to begin at 2 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
