The SFA Ladyjacks (5-7/0-0 SLC) travel to Huntsville, Texas for their first Southland Conference series with the Sam Houston Lady Bearkats (6-10/ 0-1 SLC) this weekend. The series will begin Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1pm with a doubleheader and conclude with a single game Sunday, Feb. 29.
Carrie Woydziak and Lee Lara are both ranked among the Southland Conference leaders in batting average. Woydziak is number two in the SLC, hitting at .514 and Lara is ranked at number eight hitting at .429. Heather Hebert has begun the season with a good start leading the Ladyjacks in batting, but she does not have enough bats to qualify for ranking in the Southland Conference.
SFA enters the Southland Conference opener coming off a 3-2 record at the Louisiana Mardi Gras Classic tournament, hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. SFA has won five of its last seven games.
Last year, Sam and SFA split a four game series 2-2.
The Lady Bearkats had a big victory against the Oklahoma Sooners who were ranked fourth in the nation at the time. Chrissy Dileo led the game in scoring with two home runs. Lauren Boone leads the Lady Bearkats in hits with a batting average of .575. Boone has picked up 13 hits in her first 25 at-bats for Sam Houston.
